This is going to be a very short post. It’s been exhausting. Our daughter Isla Simone Minnie Wilkinson was born at 10.42am on Tuesday January 3rd and we love her more than words can say. After a miserable pregnancy, It was a difficult delivery. I had booked a home birth. After my water broke at home and I saw meconium, I called the midwife and we went straight to hospital. I was already two weeks overdue. I went on a drip.
A long Night. Thanks Isla!
I stayed on the drip all night but I failed to labour. Isla’s heartbeat was slowing down. Everyone was whispering. I started to panic. Several doctors came in the room. I had no idea what was going on. Finally, I was rushed into theatre for an emergency caesarian. It transpired that her umbilical cord was wrapped three times around her neck. To add to that I had a placenta at the top, so she was unable to descend. She was a little weak on the first Apgar but had peaked by the second one. She is here now and she is healthy and perfect.
Naturally I am exhausted, so I’m not showing my face! Here is a photo of Isla, just a few hours old.
